Spring 2012 Haute couture collections graced Paris runways this week, but did you know that in France, Haute Couture is a protected term? Fashion houses and designers must adhere to certain regulations to be able to work under the label of Haute Couture. They must:
- Design made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings.
- Have a workshop (atelier) in Paris that employs at least fifteen people full-time.
- Each season present a collection to the Paris press, comprising at least thirty-five runs/exits with outfits for both daytime wear and evening wear.
It's an exclusivity that we can only dream of, and for me no collection captured the very essence of this dream and made it into an oh-so-close-yet-unnatainable-reality than Valentino.
